Unit 5 2016 spec- Creating an AR/VR experience

I am completing U5 (Augmented and virtual reality) with students but I am finding it difficult to actually craete the AR/VR application.

I have completed some research but found no website suitable except AppyPie. However, I have just found out that you have to pay for the application after creating it. You are limited to 48hrs to make it and then you have to start again.

Is there any other website that people can recommend as asking pupils to create it in 48hrs is not appropriate

I've not taught this unit so don't know if the following will be enough to cover the spec but I have used Blender and SketchFab to create virtual reality to demonstrate exam dividers - end results can be seen at: http://edividers.co.uk/assembly.html

I am making an AR product for Unit 5 with my sixth form, using Aurasma which has recently been rebranded as HP Reveal (https://studio.hpreveal.com/landing) - it seems to do the job fine, is very intuitive to use for AR.

Hi If you are looking for

Hi

If you are looking for software for AR use https://web.blippar.com/ it is cloud based like Google Drive and you can set up accounts for your students and then access what they have been creating when it comes to marking.

There is also a YouTube video on how to use it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2td0r8ULaA

The model assignment from OCR is also very engagging for the students and they really get into it. They have some excellent Blips (AR products).

Thanks

Gary

You might want to have a look

You might want to have a look at Blippar and Blippar Builder

It is very easy to use to create an AR app.

You just need to identify your target image then prepare all of your assets for the augmented layers

Import them all into Blippar Builder and you can create your augmented layers over multiple pages. It is easy to add effects, navifation, links to phone numbers, websites etc. Basic animation is made easy too.

There are a number of tutorials on youtube to get you started

Also lots of tutorials on the website

Technical support via the website is also good

It is on line and free

There is an app for apple and android so you and your students can view your work in the real world

You can sign up as an educator (their term not mine!) and then you can set up student acounts (though this is not really necessary)

Have a look yourself: https://blippar.com/en/products/blippbuilder/

For a commercial example of what is possible have a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbplSdh0lGU . You will never look a tomato ketchup bottle in quite the same way again!

Hope that was useful

Thank you all. Blippar looks

Thank you all. Blippar looks good.

Also using Blippar for our

Also using Blippar for our Unit 5. Really simple to use so far for students and then using the iOS 11record screen function to evidence it working on the 'preview'.

Mo,   Quick question. A

Mo,

Quick question. A student of mine has created an AR app for the 1st design contract (as approved by OCR in the model assignments) with the builder rather than a VR app. Would this be ok even though it says 'What he wants to explore with you is creating virtual reality properties where new buyers could come to his office and, by using virtual reality, walk through the rooms in the house or flat before it is actually built'?

Im just assessing the work and realised that it says in the marking guidance that students can create either a VR or AR rsource. Would it be ok to make an AR app for either design contracts as tryinng to find a free VR tool has proven difficult?

Does anyone have any

Does anyone have any resources for this unit that they are willing to share?

I want to ensure my learners are meeting all of the requiremnts in the Design specification in particular the financial, resource and quality plans but I am struggling to understand these in the context of the design contracts from the model assignments.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mo, would somone be willing to come into my school and review the work learners have done to give me an idea as to if its ok?

Hello Just adapt the model

Hello

Just adapt the model assignment scenario in the section where it says:  'What he wants to explore with you is creating virtual reality properties where new buyers could come to his office and, by using virtual reality, walk through the rooms in the house or flat before it is actually built'  Change it to reflect what the AR resource would do instead.

They could produce two designs for the same purpose, one for an AR resource, the other for a VR resource and then create one or the other.

Hope that helps.

Mo

Hello again We are not

Hello again

We are not permitted to look at partially created completed units.  But if you think an advisory telephone call would help, contact the CPD hub and arrange one.

Let's see if I can help you out though.

Financial Plan - what we need to ensure is that learners realise that there is always a cost involved e.g. developer's time, hardware, software.  Get them to get some figures in there and even tell them that there is a budget to work to which they have to break down the cost for.  Don't go too over the top as it is as it is not a deal breaker.

Resource Plan - is where the learners list the resources they require e.g hardware, software, images, text etc etc

Qualtiy Plan - describes the activities, standards, tools and processes necessary to achieve quality in the delivery of a product

Hope that helps.
