Hi Mo,

Hope you are well and all good your way.

We have our first moderation visit in a few weeks. We have started with the internal units first so have not prepeated/delivered anything explicit for the externallly assesed/exam units therefore not planned my MEI for them fully yet.

In relation to the MEI can you plaese clarify. Do I only need to do this for the external units (1/2) or all internal units and if so will my moderator expect to see some plans for next yaer for the external units?

We have been doing 6,9,21 and for each had an industry experts in relation to client relations, project management and web development and got candidate to use them as a knowledge base for questions they have about the unit topics.

Thinking may need something a bit more involved for the other units?

Thanks

Lee

Thanks Mo,

I have been through the handbook but still wasnt sure so appreciate the response. I'm still a little fuzzy what this means in my case.

We are doin the the Diploma Application Developer (1,2,6,9,21). So in this situation 9/21 dont nescaseerily need MEI as non-mandatory (we have done anyway) but at least one of 1,2,6 do as the mandatory ones do.

In this case how does it work with the MEI forms/moderator for the  extnerally examined units? Do I need to put on my MEI what we plan to do next year when delivering units 1,2 for a students as they competed 6,9,21 this year?

Or in out siutation it really is just for Unit 6 as a moderated and mandatory unit?

Thanks

Lee

Hi Lee

If you can show that the MEI that took place for Unit 6 is also relevant to the examinable units, then just included this on the plan.  Otherwise,  include something that you will be implementing for one or more of the examinable units.

Hope that helps.

Kindest regards

Mo

Cheers Mo,

Really appreacite your time. What we have done for 6 I don't think aligns much to 1/2 but have some plans in place involving IT staff in the school so will add this to the MEI with some details.

Thanks again,

Lee

Hi Lee

I am very well and thank you for asking.  As you can imagine I am as popular as other moderators at this time of year!!!

First of all, the moderator will need to see what you have planned and where you have already got industry experts to be involved, include that now.  Using them as knowledge bases, co-teaching of sessions, supporting assessment of evidence are all acceptable for MEI.

The centre handbook states:

All learners must engage in activities related to learning and/or assessment where an employer has made a contribution to the activity. The employer must be directly involved in the IT sector. We don’t prescribe the amount of employer involvement but it must be significant and by that we mean it must cover one or more elements of the qualification’s mandatory content. You don’t have to involve employers in the delivery or assessment of every mandatory unit; we recognise it may not be possible to do this.

So as you can see it is not for every unit and when it statges mandatory content, that can include the mandatory pathway units.

Hope this helps.

Kindest regards

Mo

We require you to complete a plan of how you will do this and to sign a declaration to confirm that every learner has had access to meaningful employer involvement. You must complete the OCR ‘Centre plan for Meaningful Employer Involvement’ and make this available at each moderation session. You will find the plan on the qualification page of the OCR website. Your moderator will review and report on your completion of the Centre plan for Meaningful Employer Involvement. We will impose sanctions if you don’t secure meaningful employer involvement for every learner. This could mean you receive a written warning from us or, if the plan is not completed, result in us withdrawing your centre approval to deliver the Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma, Foundation Diploma, Diploma or Extended Diploma in IT
