Unit 5 - AO2

Sorry for appearing blonde (which I am btw), I have just started teaching Unit 5 and in the Grading Criteria AO2 (Distinction) it states "At least one text style will for the body text. Leading, and paragraph spacing or indents will be set appropriately for the body text."  My question is at least one text style will what for the body text?

Many thanks for any replies

The magic word is "be" - ie. At least one text style will be for the body text.

Wink

This was a bald moment!

May I jump on the end of this one and ask about the difference between tabs and indents for AO2. Intents are more obvious, but I could ask the simple question 'what might you actually use tabs for?' This is also perhaps a bit of a blonde \ bald question (I am neither by the way!) but it makes me wonder where tabs are actually that likely to be used. It is a stipulation for Merit.

I will go further and explain a more precise scenario that prompted the thought - I have a student that is using Serif PagePlus and they have set up a bulleted list style in the publication (also stipulated for Merit). They have changed the tabstop position for the bullet points as part of this - meaning that the text is further away from the bullet itself. Such an action is not an indentation as such - indentation would be best applied to what happens to the different levels of the bullet points presumably. But it made me wonder - can this count as 'the use of tabs' for Merit - or might I have to treat this as an indentation change instead (for Pass) and then prompt an alternative use for tabs - but what might the alternative options be...??!!

Thanks.

Tabs are a potential difficulty, as their more traditional use has been superseded by tables if you restrict your thinking to straightforward left-hand ones.  I tend to think about when I would use them myself, and I only ever use them if I want a right hand tab, a decimal tab or a tab with leader dots (as in a price list etc).  If I were teaching this unit I'd show candidates the various options you can have with tabs to try to make them more meaningful.
